United Nations Renews WTCA’s NGO Status

Sep 03, 2014

NEW YORK, NY USA – We are pleased to announce that the United Nations has renewed WTCA’s Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) status. WTCA has been a recognized NGO, with special consultative status, since 1977.

Every four years, the UN Economic and Social Council requires each NGO to submit a report detailing “their activities, specifically as regards the support they have given to the work of the United Nations.”

As described in UN Economic and Social Council resolution 1996/31: “The consultative relationship is reciprocal. NGOs are granted the privilege of participating in a wide variety of United Nations-sponsored meetings and activities and in return they are expected to contribute in some way to furthering the development aims of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the United Nations at large.”

WTCA’s quadrennial report, which described the Association’s participation in UN-related activities around the world and efforts to advance the principles of the United Nations, was accepted at the ECOSOC’s Substantive Session on 14 July 2014.

We would like to give special thanks to Mr. Philippe Doubre (WTC Geneva) and Mr. John Adeleke (WTC Lagos) for their ongoing participation in UN-related programs, and their assistance in helping Headquarters’ Associate Counsel, Lindsay Kassof, prepare WTCA’s quadrennial report.
