The World Trade Center of New Orleans (WTCNO) is partnering with the economic development executive search firm Next Move Group to search for their next executive director.
The WTCNO is the founding and oldest member of the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA). Founded as the International House in 1944, the WTCNO is a non-profit member organization comprised of approximately 1,000 corporate and individual members spanning across a diverse set of industries. The WTCNO was the first of what are now more than 300 World Trade Center organizations in nearly 100 countries, all of which are members of the WTCA. The Association itself was founded in New Orleans in 1968.
The mission of the WTCNO is to create jobs and wealth in Louisiana through international trade, economic development and allied activities. We do so by supporting a prosperous international business climate in Louisiana through advocacy, information, education and stakeholder programs and service that result in the recruitment, retention, and expansion of Louisiana-based international businesses. Through these and other initiatives, the WTCNO serves as a catalyst in furthering Louisiana’s trade with other countries and bringing together international buyers and sellers to generate new business. WTCNO is governed by a 20-person Board of Directors.
The WTCNO membership base represents a diverse group of industry leaders, companies, professional organizations and government institutions that include manufacturing, energy, agriculture, maritime, transportation, food and beverage, utilities, technology, healthcare and many other sectors involved in international trade.
Our ideal candidate will be an action oriented, well rounded, articulate communicator with a very detail-oriented personality. He/she will be a natural at business development and possess an entrepreneurial spirit. He/she will be well organized, politically savvy, have a knowledge of foreign trade, as well as experience and knowledge of business & non-profit operations. Additionally, our ideal candidate will: enjoy assisting existing businesses with foreign trade and building knowledge of foreign trade; become part of the regional agricultural, energy, chemical, transportation, trade, and economic development communities; be driven by results and be able to articulate bulleted, benchmarked items of the success of the organization; be effective at advocacy and public policy; enjoy developing an engaged membership and enjoy fundraising, pursue foundation and grant funding to increase revenue for the organization and/or provide financing to our members for trade related matters; be sound in operations management; be data and analytics oriented and have a curiosity to learn the supply chains of our largest business sectors and build a dashboard to track how our region affects New Orleans, the state, the USA, and the world; be a collaborative leader who is a team player with other economic development organizations in New Orleans and Louisiana; and be skilled and effective in the efficient business operations of the WTCNO.
The estimated time spent on areas of responsibility for this role breaks down as follows: 40% Membership Development/Programming, 35% Working Action Plans From the 6 Primary WTCNO Committees (Policy Committee; International Business Committee; Transportation Committee; Agricultural, Specialty Food & Beverage Committee; Energy, Manufacturing & Value-Add Committee; and Digital Commerce & Cyber Security Committee), 15% Event Planning, 10% Administrative Duties.
