WTC Moscow: The 7th Congress of the Russian CCI

MOSCOW, RUSSIA - The Congress of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation took place at the World Trade Moscow on March, 1st. The Congress delegates summed up the results of the CCI for the period after the 6th Congress which was held on March 4, 2011, and discussed key activities of the Chamber for 2016–2020. Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the Congress.

Current Head of the CCI of the Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin was reelected unanimously for another term of five years.The Congress was attended by representatives of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Government of the Russian Federation, public organizations. 512 delegates represented Local Chambers of Commerce and Industry, financial institutions, alliances, associations and other unions of entrepreneurs – members of the CCI. A quarter of the Congress participants represented industrial production, 10 percent – trade, science, healthcare, agriculture, and exhibition sector.

The Congress started with a minute of silence in memory of the Ex-Head of the CCI of the Russian Federation, academician, outstanding political figure Evgeny Primakov. Many delegates had known him personally, and worked with him at the CCI of the Russian Federation for a long time. President of the Chamber Sergey Katyrin presented his report on the activities carried out by the CCI of the Russian Federation after the 6th Congress

After the first part of the plenary meeting the Congress delegates continued their work on four discussion platforms:

  • Small and medium-sized businesses: the time of system solutions. The CCI of Russia is a center for support and development of SMEs in the regions;
  • The domestic business and foreign economic relations of Russia: a thorny path to the international market;
  • Business and investments: new challenges, new plans;
  • Chambers of Commerce and Industry and business associations: the potential of interaction, best practices.

72 delegates and guests of the Congress took part in the discussions. During the professional discussion of the economic problems and entrepreneurship development in the current conditions the relevant system proposals for the CCI of the Russian Federation which constituted the basis for priority business of the Chamber in 2016–2020 were developed.

In addition, these proposals were presented by the platform moderators to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who joined the Congress in the afternoon. The State’s Head particularly emphasized that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry is one of the largest business unions with a long history and grand traditions. The President said that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation is, indeed, an all-Russian association having pointed out that the CCI is a reliable partner of the State in addressing important social and economic objectives of the country.
