WTC Bhubaneswar participates in programme on WTO

BHUBANESWAR, INDIA - WTC Bhubaneswar officials actively participated in a capacity building programme on “WTO Agreements, Current negotiations and Policy Implication for States” organized by the Centre for WTO Studies (CWS), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi in association with State WTO Cell, Directorate of Agriculture & Food Production, Odisha. The two day program was inaugurated by Shri.Manoj Ahuja,IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Agriculture & F.E. and was conducted by Shri.Mukesh Bhatnagar, Professor, CWS and his team here on 30th & 31st January 2017 at the Conference Hall, IMAGE, Siripur, Bhubaneswar.

While delivering the inaugural address Shri.Manoj Ahuja, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Agriculture & F.E. stated that in the existing global scenario where countries trade with each other, it is highly essential for the entrepreneurs of the state to win a competitive advantage. Highlighting the role of WTO in facilitating smooth international trade between countries and ensuring fair conduct, he emphasized on the need for creation of awareness amongst the entrepreneurs of the state about its importance as the provisions of WTO stand to safeguard the interest of business. Appreciating the initiative taken he coveted for more such programs being conducted at grass root levels so as to enhance production and exports from the state of Odisha. 

Shri.Mukesh Bhatnagar, Professor, CWS and his team comprising of Ms. Chandni Raina, Professor, CWS and Dr. Sachin Sharma, Asst. Professor, CWS further conducted the program to cover topics including overview of WTO Agreements deliberating on their coverage, scope and current negotiations, overview of WTO Trade Remedy Measures including Implications for State Governments in Subsidies and Countervailing Duty, Investigations Overview of the WTO Agreements on Anti-dumping, Subsidies and Safeguards, Schemes of State Governments, Role of State Governments in Notification of subsidies to WTO, WTO Agreement on Agriculture and Domestic support Notifications, Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights and Creating Value from IPRs, Scope and Potential for States in Geographical Indications, Fisheries Subsidies and Negotiations in WTO and implications for States schemes. 

The program was attended by closed group representatives of trade and industry bodies, relevant government departments and entrepreneurs from across various sectors.
