WTC Bhubaneswar Celebrates Int'l Womens Day

BHUBANESWAR, INDIA - World Trade Centre Bhubaneswar celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th March 2017 by associating with the Department of MSME, Government of Odisha in a seminar on the topic “Entrepreneurship Development with Focus on Women Entrepreneurship” conducted at the Conference Hall of Odisha MSME Trade Fair, at IDCO Exhibition Ground, Bhubaneswar.

The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. L. N. Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of MSME, Government of Odisha. In his inaugural address Mr. Gupta highlighted upon various schemes, initiatives and policies incentives made available to the women entrepreneurs by the State Government. 

While delivering the key note address, the Chief Guest to the seminar Mr. R. Balakrishnan, IAS, Development Commissioner cum Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Odisha expressed his views on women empowerment as the liberty and ability of women to perform in any business. While citing the example of a women run market place in North Eastern India he deliberated that women need not build an enterprise to be empowered rather it is the efficiency with which they manage various business functions which makes them confident and leads to financial independence. He also advocated that women should make work a way of their life so that they would come into the fold of general entrepreneurs debarring any special privileges and assistance as this would ultimately mark their success. 

Dr.Ravni Thakur, Professor, Delhi University, one of the key speakers of the seminar, in her address highlighted some of the international best practices which help in empowering women to succeed in any field or sector. She advocated that childcare should be made an integral part of women welfare and empowerment programs. She also encouraged the state governments on a setting up of a one stop agency for women seeking any assistance irrespective of its nature. 

The seminar further witnessed experience sharing session by some of the successful women entrepreneurs of the State namely Ms.Rashmi Sahoo, CEO, FROZIT, Cuttack, Ms.Arundhanti Swain, Chair Person, Odisha Assembly of Small & Medium Enterprises, Mrs.Rashima Misra, Director, Milk Mantra, Ms.Nirupama Mishra, General Manager, APICOL, Mrs.Geeta Padhi, Director, Magnum Group.

Over 200 participants who attended the seminar from across the State further interacted with the speakers in a highly valuable Q&A session.

WTC Bhubaneswar further tied up with Big FM 92.7 radio channel to conduct a on the spot quiz program for all the women entrepreneurs, participants, as well as visitors at the fair. The channel further aired the interviews of the selected women exhibitors in an endeavour to further motivate them and enhance the visibility of their businesses.
