World Trade Center Winnipeg Visits Savannah

Apr 15, 2016

SAVANNAH, GA, USA – On April 4-6, World Trade Center Savannah (WTC Savannah), in partnership with WTC Savannah Platinum Partner, Georgia Power, welcomed Canadian delegates from the World Trade Centre Winnipeg (WTC Winnipeg) for a business development and trade mission. The events served as an opportunity to highlight the assets and business opportunities that exist in the Coastal Georgia region.

The week began with a Global Education Program hosted by Mariette Mulaire, President and CEO of WTC Winnipeg, assistant project manager Annie Henry and the Vice Consul and Trade Commissioner of the Canadian Consulate for the Southeast, Lisa Stockley. The program highlighted the upcoming business matchmaking forum, Centrallia, to be held in Winnipeg on May 25–27 where WTC Savannah will serve as a delegation leader. Additionally, Ms. Stockley covered the services offered by the Consulate to Canadian businesses located in the Southeast.

During their visit, the eight Canadian companies experienced the coastal region and the opportunities and advantages of doing business in the area. This included a tour of the internationally renowned university for creative careers, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). SCAD offers more degree programs and specializations than any other art and design university, which inherently impacts Savannah’s economy greatly.

The Canadian group also visited with a Canadian-headquartered manufacturer located in Savannah, DIRTT Environmental Solutions, Inc. Operations Manager Laura Lee Bocade led the visit, which included lunch in the on-site cafeteria, presentations on the DIRTT philosophy and business model as well as a tour of the production floor.

Throughout the visit, business-to-business matchmaking meetings were arranged for the participating Canadian companies, as well as networking opportunities, allowing small and mid-sized businesses in Coastal Georgia to make lasting connections with the delegation.

To illustrate the world-class quality of life in Coastal Georgia, the delegation enjoyed the Savannah Yacht Club, featuring a waterfront view for dinner, the famous Olde Pink House and special seating at selected performances of the Savannah Music Festival.
