Workshop on Strategy for Augmentation of Exports

BHUBANESWAR, INDIA - Workshop on “Strategy for Augmentation of Exports from Odisha”, with an objective to encourage the entrepreneurs of the State, received much enthusiasm. The workshop which was organised in association with Directorate of Export Promotion and Marketing, Govt. of Odisha on 12th January 2016, focused on understanding the strategy for getting into International trade and business and to take forward building up a sustainable and profitable business.

Prof. Arun Sehgal, an expert in International Marketing, the main facilitator for the workshop, highlighted the expectations of the international market players and as to how one should go about exploring such markets. He also spoke about the technical as well as attitudinal requisites one should take care of while dealing with foreign clients which would in turn help their businesses to flourish in the global markets. He highlighted the market strategies for potential sectors of the State like tourism, Marine, IT, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Handicrafts, etc.

Earlier in his key note address, Shri. Fakir Mohan Nayak, Additional Secretary, Department of Micro Small and Medium, Enterprises, Govt. of Odisha, highlighted the strength of MSME in the State. He said that there are about 1.5 million MSME units in the state providing jobs to about 3.3 million people and Odisha ranks among the top ten states in terms of providing employment. For the growth of the sector the state govt. has been organizing trade fair under the banner of Odisha MSME Trade fair for last four years, bringing all agencies concerned with MSMEs under one roof. He also mentioned that a new MSME development policy and the Export Policy announced by the State aims a vibrant growth of MSME sector.

Mr. Ramesh Mahapatra, President, Utkal Chamber of Commerce & Industry & Mr. N. Palai, Director of Industries were also present on the occasion to share their perspectives on the export scenario of the state during the inaugural session.

Mr.B.K.Das, Director, Directorate of Export Promotion and Marketing (DEP&M), Government of Odisha in his remarks explained the export oriented initiatives of DEP&M to assist the MSMES in the State.

Mr. L.N. Sahu, Manager, Export Credit Guarantee, Corporation of India and Mr. K.K. Sahoo from Federation of Indian Exporters also made their deliberations on the various institutional support systems available for the exporters’ benefits as part of the technical session.

The Q& A session gave more opportunities for the delegates to interact with the expert and get more insight on the subject.

Over 150 delegates, who attended the workshop representing local entrepreneurs, leading companies of the State in sectors like Manufacturing, Logistics, Travel Services, Health Services, Food Processing Units, Power, Sea Food, Government Bodies and Financial Institutions, totally convinced to enter into the global market and reap the benefit thereof.
