Views on Algeria: Highlighting Spanish Heritage

Feb 04, 2016

MADRID, SPAIN - In preparation for the upcoming General Assembly in Algiers, learn more about Algeria's rich shared history with Spain and its appeal as a tourist destination.

Represented by the National Office of Tourism (ONT), Algeria took part to the 36th Tourism and Traveling Exhibition that took place on January 2016 in Madrid (Spain). This contribution is part of “the development of an action program made by the Ministry of Territory Planning, Tourism and Crafts to promote Algeria as a destination, inspired by the strategy of tourism development in the 2030 horizon”, pointed out Noureddine Belmihoub, interim general director, who’s trying to give another dimension to this participation.

According to a press release from the National Tourism Office, the Spanish market is “a traditional market of the utmost importance to Algeria. Because of the shared history between the two countries, Algeria has a rich and authentic Spanish heritage”. As a matter of fact, Spain “is among the top five exporters of tourists to our country”.

With a 120m² stall, Algeria wants to conciliate authenticity with modernity by highlighting its Spanish heritage and the multiple touristic characteristics it offers as a destination.

Animation and Traditional Outfits

Many Algerian tourism operators exhibited their products, destined to attract the biggest number of tourists and to promote Algeria as a destination. Beside the attractive tourism offers that were presented to the visitors, some promotional supports have also been exhibited to highlight the richness and diversity of the Algerian touristic heritage.

The Algerian stall hosted many animations presented by craftsmen specialized in Ceramics, Traditional outfits, jewelries, in other words the heart of Algerian cultural
heritage.

Through the media and tourism operators, the Spanish are invited to leave their chilliness and come discover Algeria, the country of a thousand faces capable of surprising them with its cultural and touristic richness. For the Algerian tourism observers, it is time to speed up things in communication around this destination by putting up all the means necessary for a better visibility and an appreciation of our country’s touristic true value. It would also counter the denigration and misinformation campaigns regularly circulated here and there.

Participating in foreign exhibitions favors the emergence of our country on an international scale and allows us to promote our, too often unknown, lands. The National Tourism Office is generally present in the major events.
