MSME Clusters in Ichalkaranji Hold Export Promise

World Trade Centre Mumbai organised its 2nd edition of World Trade Day Maharashtra in Ichalkaranji on the theme ‘Enhancing Export Opportunities for MSMEs’ in association with Maharashtra Industry Trade and Investment Facilitation Cell (MAITRI) and Urja Foundation, which was held at Rotary Club Hall, Ichalkaranji on June 20, 2018. It was part of the Centre’s week-long World Trade Day programme organised in different districts in Maharashtra.

Mr. S. D. Shelke, General Manager, District Industries Centre, Kolhapur said, “Kolhapur district has some of the fastest growing MSME Clusters in Maharashtra, having textile cluster in Ichalkaranji. Kolhapur is the maximum beneficiary of the Government of Maharashtra’s incentives with a 30 percent share”.

Mr. Shelke mentioned about the Package Scheme of Incentive (PSI) 2013, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Development Programme and Women Entrepreneurship Policy.

Mr. Abhaysinh Phalake, Deputy Commissioner, Mumbai Customs Zone in his Keynote Address said, “Exporters must ensure that their shipping agencies submit Export General Manifest (EGM) with the Customs office on time to enable timely settlement of IGST refunds”. He explained procedures for claiming Rebate on State Levies (RoSL) and advised exporters to register their bank account with the Customs Department to get hassle-free refunds.

Mr. Mukesh Samtani, Assistant Director, Engineering Export Promotion Council urged textile machinery manufacturers and engineering companies in Ichalkaranji to explore business opportunities in Columbia and Philippines. Columbia is the second largest market after Brazil for India’s engineering goods in the Latin America. He invited engineering companies to participate in the Bogota International Trade Show. With regard to Philippines, India’s engineering export to the country has grown exponentially and invited Indian companies to participate in INDEE Philippines.

Mr. N.D. Mhatre, Director General (Technical), Indian Textile Accessories & Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (ITAMMA) guided MSMEs on adopting cutting-edge technologies to become globally competitive, which not only enhance productivity but also improves product quality, saves energy, reduces waste and protects environment. He further added that India produces only USD 1.2 billion worth of textile machines against the market size of USD 2.7 billion.
