“Challenges of 2017” conference at WTC Moscow

Jun 04, 2016

MOSCOW, RUSSIA - On Saturday, June 4, the World Trade Center Moscow hosted a conference, “Challenges of 2017,” organized by the Center for Strategic Research, or CSR, led by Alexei Kudrin. Its attendees discussed the most topical political, economic and social challenges both inside Russia and beyond, and identified the risks that obstruct the country’s development.

Thus, experts, analysts, officials and businessmen made at the WTC the first step towards elaboration of Russia’s development strategy after 2018. “Any large-scale work aimed at the development of a government strategy, at the definition of the key policies must begin with the understanding of the key challenges and risks. We must examine issues from all sides. In my view, we have managed to cover all the key issues faced by different spheres of our society,” Alexei Kudrin was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.

In the opinion of the experts, one of the key issues in foreign policy is Russia’s deepening isolation from international capital and commodity markets, and in economy it is a negative appeal of internal investments. Corruption and excessive regulation were also named among the most urgent issues. As a follow-up on the conference, a map of risks faced by Russia will be released, alongside ways to overcome them.

By next summer, the CSR plans to complete development of the basic framework of the strategy.
