International Women's Day at WTC Mumbai

MVIRDC World Trade Center Mumbai celebrated International Women's Day through the spirit of One World Many Women Countless Opportunities which was themed 'Empowering Women to Access Global Markets'. The programme featured exhibition, film screening, panel discussions, book release and awards.  

The exhibition was held over two days (March 11 - 12, 2020) which featured homemade and organic products by women representing two organisations namely, Zhep - The LEAP and Entrepreneur Excel.

The celebration commenced with screening of a short film 'Daughters of The Polo God' by Roopa Barua set in Manipur. The film showcased saving an endangered breed of pony and empowering women in the sport of polo simultaneously. The film recently won the best documentary (short) at the 19th annual New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF).

There were three panel discussions - 'Art, Media & Entertainment', 'Professional Couples Working Together' and 'Power Personalities'. The discussions surrounded around how women have made it to the top in their chosen field of business. The couples spoke about how they handled challenges together and maintained a work-life balance. Some of the inhibiting factors to women's empowerment were also discussed.

Another highlight of the celebrations was a book release 'Grow Younger' by Mala Mansukhani. Ms. Mansukhani through her book tells the story of one woman who lives and still lives a youthful life even after she crosses 60 years of age. The book also reveals why should one and how can one live a youthful life.

Ms. Poornima, Shirishkar, Founder, Zhep - The LEAP and Ms. Namrata Thakker, Founder, Entrepreneur Excel were felicitated for their exemplary contributions to business and in turn to society. Besides, two young disabled girls were also felicitated for their ability to be absorbed into mainstream workforce, facilitated by Trinayani, a foundation dedicated to disability inclusion.
