MUMBAI, INDIA - World Trade Centre (WTC) Mumbai organized its 6th Dr. M. Visvesvaraya Memorial Lecture and WTCA Award of Honour on December 27, 2016 at the WTC Mumbai. The Honâble Mr. M. Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India was the Chief Guest and delivered the Memorial Lecture on âEnhancing Indian Productivity: Role of Global Standards. Honâble Mr. Ansari said, âOur country needs to be more active in the global standards setting forums and adopt these standards. This would enable Indian manufacturing to improve in terms of productivity and efficiency to compete in a globalized marketâ.
Honâble Mr. Hamid emphasized that technology standards are the essential building blocks by which a nation can develop and maintain a competitive national economy. Competition in country specific standards can be brutal if adequate preparation is lacking. Therefore Indian industry needs to better prepare and in this process expand its global reach.
During the event, Honâble Mr. Ansari presented the WTCA Award of Honour on Mrs. Rajashree Birla, Chairperson, Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development.
Mrs. Birla, while delivering her award acceptance speech, said, âI believe that we truly practice compassionate capitalism. Service to society is at the very heart of our value system. We are fully committed to inclusive growth and we are in sync with Prime Minister Mr. Modijiâs vision of India. In order to bridge the skill gap in India, we have planned six vocational Educational Centres in Raipur, Udaipur, Nagpur, Vadodara, Kanpur and Bhopal. Only if all of us work together â corporate, individuals, academia and the government, we will be able to resolve the problems of povertyâ.
Mr. Ghazi Abu Nahl, Chairman, World Trade Centers Association, said, âWorld Trade Centre Mumbai is a pioneer (in India) in linking Indian business community with the network of over 320 World Trade Centers across the world. World Trade Centers Association is committed to create more jobs, enhance investment and improve the competitiveness of the Indian economy.â
Mr. Kamal M. Morarka, Chairman, World Trade Centre Mumbai said, âWorld Trade Centre Mumbai is committed to the vision of Dr. M. Visvesvaraya to promote Indiaâs international trade and support innovation in industry. World Trade Centre Mumbai must grow trade with exchange of information and this would enhance competitiveness.â
Mr. Vijay Kalantri, Vice Chairman, World Trade Centre Mumbai, while proposing the vote of thanks for the event, said, âWe express our gratitude to Honâble Mr. M. Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India for delivering the memorial address. We also thank Mr. Nahl for honouring us by attending this event. We hope the Indian industry adopts the global standards for products and services thereby improving its competitiveness in the international market.â
