India and Russia are strengthening links

MOSCOW, RUSSIA - World Trade Centre (WTC) Mumbai and All India Association of Industries (AIAI) were warmly welcomed by World Trade Center Moscow on July 8. They hosted a business breakfast with representatives of the Russian authorities, industries and chambers of commerce which was led by Dergey E. Cherymin Minister of Moscow Government, Chairman of the Executive Board of Business Council for cooperation with India. Mumbai delegation was led by Rupa Naik, the Director (Projects) WTC Mumbai and AIAI, she was accompanied by Queenie Singh Director (AIAI) Neeta Kolhatkar Joint Director Corporate Communications, WTC Mumbai.

Naik highlighted the commonalities between India and Russia saying both the countries were emotional and strong cultures. This visit would forge closer ties between both India-Russia and WTC Mumbai and Moscow. She also mentioned WTC Mumbai has obtained licences for three new World Trade Centres - WTC Bhubaneshwar, Jaipur and Goa. Naik also requested a strong participation by Russia in the GES 2015. 

Cherymin said their government wanted to strengthen Russia-India Trade Council, he promised he would visit WTC Mumbai.

Cherymin also said that there are queries for doing business with India and Moscow government is interested in refurbishing the industrial zones and are looking for Indian investments. 

The officials invited WTC Mumbai and AIAI to participate in Moscow food show which is in Mid-Oct 8-11. 

Salamatov the Director General of WTC Moscow appreciated the visit paid to WTC Moscow to enhance business relations with them. He mentioned that Indian companies have scope of investing in the engineering, automotive sector, steel - very important sectors for both India and Russia. He aired the fears of Russian steel exporters affected due to the hike in non-tariff barriers and strict anti-dumping laws for steel. Naik assured them of addressing these concerns with the appropriate authorities and connecting them to iron and steel importers association.

Yuriy N. Tkachenko Chairman of the CCI of Krasnodar region, General director of WTC Krasnodar informed in details regarding the investment opportunities in Krasnodar and asked WTC Mumbai and AIAI to participate in the Sochi forum from Oct 1-4th.

The government and Chamber of commerce said that they are keen on Indians coming to Russia to invest. They felt the SMEs are the power house of India, especially IT and Pharmaceuticals. The Russians are keen on Indian SMEs investing in various regions and in particular the techno parks, which are world class in infrastructure and have excellent amenities. They have also assured of offering various tax relief.

The meeting was led by Vladimir Salamatov โ€“ Director General of the World Trade Center Moscow, Chairman of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Committee on economic integration of SCO and the CIS.
