GES 2015 inaugurated at WTC Mumbai

MUMBAI, INDIA - World Trade Centre Mumbai and All India Association of Industries (AIAI) jointly organised the 5th Global Economic Summit (GES) on ‘Enabling Food for All’ during November 19-21, 2015. The opening ceremony of the summit was held at the conference hall in the Expo Centre, WTC Mumbai at 10:30 am on November 19, 2015.

This was followed by the felicitation of the guests. The international guests who attended the opening session include Ghazi Abu Nahl, Chairman World Trade Centers Association, New York and Chairman, World Trade Center Holdings (Cyprus) Ltd and WTC Qatar, Andrey Murga, Vice Chairman, Minister of Economic Development, Russian Federation, Government of Stavropol Territory. The chief guests from India include Shyam Khadka, FAO Representative in India and Subhash Desai, Minister of Industries, Government of Maharashtra.

In his address, Mr. Abu Nahl stressed for a co-ordinated strategy among all countries in the world to eliminate hunger and attain food security across the globe.

In his address, Murga recalled the strong economic and political ties between Russia and India. He informed that the Russian delegation from Stavropol region visited India to strengthen economic ties between India and the region.

In his address, Jankowiak described the economy of Wielkopolska Region of Poland. He expressed hope that the summit would provide inspiration and generate useful solutions to face the emerging challenges of the agriculture and food processing sector in the region.

In his thematic presentation, Khadka explained the agriculture sector of India and shared his views on the policy framework that would ensure a sustainable agriculture system. 

This was followed by the release of the Research Study titled ‘Enabling Food for All’ and the Summit Handbook.

Later, the Chief Guests distributed awards to farmers, farmer producer companies, agri-business entrepreneurs, non-government organisations in various parts of Maharashtra. Manisha Dhatrak, Managing Director, Varun Agro Processing Foods Pvt Ltd., who works for improving the condition of women farmers, received award for her valuable service in the sector.

This was followed by the keynote address by Desai in which the minister highlighted the issues facing the farming community in India and ways to overcome it. He advocated that the experts should share their knowledge and technology to make value additions to agri and food chain systems so that the pressure on the agriculture sector will reduce and the farmers will be able to increase their yield.

Earlier in the welcome address, Vijay Kalantri, Vice Chairman, World Trade Centre Mumbai and President, All India Association of Industries (AIAI) welcomed all the guests and other participants to this event. He said during the three days o the summit, experts from India and abroad would share solutions for addressing the challenges in the farming sector.
