1887-2016 the rise and fall of a department store

During this WTC Leeuwarden Businessclub event Philippe Hondelinck will be telling us all about the rise and fall of one of the most succesfull department stores / retail concerns in The Netherlands. Philippe is one of our members, historian and regional secretary of the Dutch Koninklijke Metaalunie in the Northern Netherlands. Koninklijke Metaalunie is the largest Dutch employers' organisation for small and medium-sized enterprises active in the metal industry. The more than 13,000 affiliated members offer work to approximately 150,000 employees and jointly represent a turnover of more than 22 billion euros.

We all grew up with Vroom & Dreesmann later called V&D. Abroad this company was known as Vendex! Vendex was in the eigthies one of the international largest retail concerns.

Pioneers, innovaters for a long time. Unfortunately bankrupt in early 2016. What happened and what are the lessons we can learn from them?
