WTC Seattle Joins Global Unity Compassion Games

SEATTLE, WA, USA - Louisville, Silicon Valley, and Austin are joining with other places around the world to challenge the Seattle area to see who can be the most compassionate city in the world by playing in the Compassion Games: Survival of the Kindest.

In response, the World Trade Center Seattle is joining with others in the region including business leaders, interfaith organizations, non-profits and schools to accept this challenge and mobilize on behalf of “Team Seattle,” and challenge other World Trade Centers around the globe to form their own teams and participate in the Global Unity Games.

In the Compassion Games, competition becomes coopetition as teams and individuals challenge one another through community service, acts of kindness and raising monies for local causes. No one can lose the Compassion Games; in fact the more people play, the more people win!

The Games ignite the power of compassionate action and service to catalyze organizations, schools, businesses and any group to make our communities safer, kinder, more just, and better places to live. Over the last four years, the Compassion Games have been played by over 400,000 volunteers serving more than 1.5 million people and over one million dollars has been raised for local initiatives.

This year the Compassion Games is partnering with 9/11 Day Tomorrow Together, a prominent coalition of more than 25 organizations to organize the “Global Unity Games: Tomorrow Together” that will take place from September 11 through September 21, the International Day of Peace. This will also mark the beginning of a 5-year Campaign focused on youth to ignite global empathy, unity and service called, “Tomorrow Together.”

To participate, businesses, community organizations and nonprofits, will independently or collectively co-create and implement activities, service projects and/or fundraising events for local causes during the 11 days of the Global Unity Compassion Games. Anyone in the region can sign up to participate in these initiatives. To measure collective impact, players of each team report the number of volunteers, the number of hours served, monies raised for local causes, and number of people served onto a web-based report map. They will also post stories of the impacts experienced through participating in the projects. These results will be shared globally so each place can track and compare their impacts.

With this being the 15th anniversary of 9/11 it is fitting to partner with World Trade Center Seattle to reach out beyond the Greater Seattle region to the over 300 World Trade Centers around the world to join in and challenge each other in a collective expression of peace, empathy, service and compassion.
