WTC Goa to Make Panjim Centre of Smart Trade

GOA, INDIA - WTC Goa met with the Mr Sidharth Kuncalienkar, Member of Legislative Assembly, Panjim City, Goa on October 15, 2015. WTC Goa also attended a programme on 'Imagine Panaji: Smart City Launch Workshop' on October 15th and 19th, 2015. In keeping in line with the latest policy on Smart Cities announced by the CM Mr Laxmikant Parsekar, the state invites major investments in the service sector like Information Technology, Financial hubs etc. The Smart city project is a people centric project and hence suggestions by every citizen taken by in-depth survey is an important input.

Kuncalienkar said the Smart City Project will bring about development in various areas like economical, industrial and academia, in a way that it will improve the overall quality of life in the state. 

"The city has a huge potential to develop the infrastructure for service sector like back offices of large Information Technology companies, Financial hub for banking institutions etc.", mentioned Mr Kuncalienkar. 

The project is devised and implemented into various phases of which the first phase included the selection of 100 cities of India for the project. Phase two encompasses a competition among the selected 100 cities out of which 20 or less will be finalized for the implementation of the project based on the proposal put forward by each state. The entire project is people oriented i.e. the suggestion and feedback of the local population is the key input for the proposal and phase three will be implementation as per plans.

WTC Goa also met with the consultancy officials assigned for the Smart city project to gather feedback. According to the Pan city survey conducted till date the major issues concerning the local community were in the areas of Transport, Health, e-Governance and Waste management in the city. WTC Goa has assured to provide assistance of all kinds to make the city a strong centre of trade and investment, which will be open to Indian as well as International market.

The Smart Cities Mission of the Government is a bold, new initiative and a step in the direction to improve the quality of life and attract people and investments to the City, setting in motion a virtuous cycle of growth and development.
