With works ongoing to ensure that the physical structure is established here by the end of September 2024, Guyana’s first World Trade Center on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Trade Center Miami. The agreement will pave the way for collaboration, such as networking opportunities, market access, support of inbound and outbound trade missions, among others between the two organisations. The MoU was signed by Executive Director of World Trade Center Guyana, Wesley Kirton and Chief Executive Officer of World Trade Center Miami, Ivan Barrios during a virtual meeting held in Miami. In delivering virtual remarks, Chairman of Demerara Distillers Ltd., Komal Samaroo said the World Trade Center of Guyana has a “critical” role to play in promoting trade with Guyanese businesses and the rest of the world. “We believe that this particular point in time, the World Trade Center in Georgetown has a very critical role to play in promoting trade with Guyanese business and the rest of the world. “So I believe our two world trade center working together can further enhance and increase the level of trade that takes place now between now Guyana and the US and particularly at this time as countries look more at their reliably, food security, supply chain , on shoring, nearing shoring and all these adjustments that are taking place,” Samaroo said. Noting that the World Trade Center in Guyana is “very new,” Samaroo said the physical structure is likely to be up and running by September month end. Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) officially received the license for Guyana’s World Trade Center, the first-ever World Trade Center to be set up in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The World Trade Center Guyana office will be located at DDL’s High Street, Kingston, Georgetown office. During Thursday’s meeting, the two organisations also discussed Guyana’s participation in upcoming events such as the American Food and Beverage Show which will be held later this year. And Vice President of World Trade Center, Miami, Alicia Ancona welcomed Guyana’s participation in the event, whether it’s Guyanese businesses exhibiting their products or just visiting to network. “We have people come, attend the show…we can discuss for the following year if Guyana would like to exhibit and if they feel it reaches their expectation. “That’s something that we work with countries that have not yet been at the show. We encourage them to visit….We meet with them beforehand, we do tours beforehand… to have the opportunity to meet with potential partners as they explore either entering the US market or exporting globally,” Ancona said.
