Meeting on India - Mauritius Trade relations

WTC Mumbai held an interactive meeting with the Senior officials from the Economic Development Board of Mauritius to discuss strategies to promote trade, investment and technical cooperation between both the countries.

Ms. Nirmala Jeetah, Director of the Economic Development Board of Mauritius highlighted that Indian pharmaceutical companies investing in certain sectors in Mauritius are eligible for a Premium Investor Certificate, offering more than an eight-year tax holiday, which exceeds the standard eight-year tax holiday for foreign investors. After the tax holiday, investors in these sectors benefit from a reduced corporate tax rate of 3%, compared to the standard 15%. Healthcare and pharma are prioritized sectors by the Mauritian government to attract foreign investment. She also emphasized the substantial demand for pharmaceutical products in Mauritius, encouraging Indian pharma exporters to tap into this market by partnering with local wholesale distributors.

Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman, WTC Mumbai, highlighted Mauritius as a gateway for Indian companies to access African and European markets due to its Free Trade Agreements with these regions. He emphasized the duty-free benefits available to Indian exporters under the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) with Mauritius. Additionally, he mentioned Mauritius' high ranking in ease of doing business among African countries, emphasizing the country's peaceful and friendly environment, encouraging Indian companies to explore business opportunities through existing trade agreements.
