BINH DUONG TOWARDS NET ZERO EMISSIONS BY 2050

On the morning of January 18, 2024, the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, BECAMEX IDC and World Trade Center Binh Duong New City co-organized the "U.S. - Vietnam Getting to Net Zero Workshop - Industrial Manufacturing Decarbonization” at the Binh Duong Convention and Exhibition Center, with the participation of more than 200 guests and speakers from U.S. Government Agencies and Vietnamese enterprises from different sectors such as: industrial park developers; utility companies; engineering & construction companies; environmental consultancies; industry associations & chamber of commerce; research institutions; investors; supply chain & logistics professionals.

This event covered two major topics: industrial decarbonization and energy efficiency that support Vietnam’s sustainable development in the manufacturing industry. According to Ms. Susan Burns, Consular General of the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the program was a collaboration between the U.S. Commercial Service Vietnam and BECAMEX IDC with the objective of sharing best practices and technological exchanges to diversify energy sources, improve energy efficiency, and leverage international and green finance support. This is an activity under a program series initiated by U.S. Commercial Service to support Vietnam in realizing the country’s Net Zero commitment.

At the workshop, experts presented on topics such as: Case study on eco-industrial parks in Vietnam presented by representatives of Becamex IDC; Research on opportunities to develop eco-industrial parks in Vietnam; IFC's initiative to promote green and resilient buildings in emerging markets; Enable the decarbonization of mission-critical industrial systems.

Through the program, speakers had useful shares about the role of energy efficiency as well as the ability to realize these goals, especially in the context of Vietnam's commitments to bring net emissions to zero by 2050.
