Pakistan Privatization Initiative

Washington, DC, USA - On Thursday October 8, 2015, the WTC Washington, DC (Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center) hosted the Pakistan Power Sector Privatization Road Show, co-sponsored by the World Bank, the U.S-Pakistan Business Council, the United States Energy Association and the RRIT. The road show was headlined by the Pakistani Minister of State and Chairman of the Privatization Commission, the Secretary of the Privatization Commission, the Secretary of Water and Power, the Pakistani Ambassador to the U.S., World Bank senior officials and representatives from USAID, and the Pakistani and American private sector.

After being welcomed by Dr. Esperanza Lasagabaster, Practice Manager at the World Bank Group, the attendees learned about Pakistan investment opportunities, the power sector in Pakistan and the privatization efforts from his Excellency Mohammad Zubair, Minister of State/Chairman, Privatization Commission, his Excellency Jalil Abbas Jilani, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the United States, Mr. Ahmad N. Sukhera, Secretary of the Privatization Commission and Mr. Mohammad Younus Dagha, Secretary, Ministry of Water and Power. The Pakistani private sector presented the case of K Electric, a successful power sector privatization example. Subsequently, the Financial Advisors shared details on the power sector projects to be privatized. The road show also included keynote addresses from senior officials of the World Bank and USAID. Throughout the day, the audience was offered the opportunity to ask questions to the high ranking officials and to high level specialists of Pakistan.

The day ended with roundtables direct interactions between International Investors and Transaction Managers & Financial Advisors where each table was attributed to a Power Sector entity and allowed investors to gain detailed information of each project through one-on-one discussions.
