International Forum on Building An Alliance

WASHINGTON, DC - North Korea's relentless drive to possess nuclear missiles has captured the world's attention and made the Korean peninsula a major global security concern. The horrific human rights abuses reported by thousands of defectors from the North add greater urgency for a concerted response from the civilized world. With little progress in decades of diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis, there is growing support for civil society engagement for peaceful Korean unification as the ultimate solution to the tragedy of a divided Korea. A movement for a unified Korea will provide a new framework to consider existing challenges and explore innovative solutions. This timely forum will examine the prospects of a unified Korea with experts, policy makers and civil society leaders from Action for Korea United, a coalition representing over 850 organizations.
