Foreign Policy Panel: Executive Order 13769

WASHINGTON, DC - On January 27, 2017 President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 13769, which included provisions on visa issuance, screening standards, and refugee admittance. Formally titled "Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorists Entry Into the United States", the order placed a 90-day temporary ban on immigrant and non-immigrant entry into the United States of peoples from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. Taking immediate effect the order resulted in individuals, immigrant and refugee, being denied entry or travel into the US, including those already at US airports. The ban has been challenged in court, leaving the order and those affected by it in limbo. What is the basis for this order? Is it able to achieve its stated objectives?
