PUBLIC INVITED TO OPEN HOUSE ON PORT MASTER PLAN

Mar 28, 2017

SAN DIEGO, CA, USA - The Port of San Diego invites the public to attend an Open House to learn about and discuss the Port Master Plan Update. The Port has been conducting an Integrated Planning initiative that spans 6,000 acres of land and water with the goal of setting a blueprint for baywide planning and development for the next 50 years.

The open house will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the Port of San Diego Administration Building, located at 3165 Pacific Hwy, San Diego, CA 92101. It will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about this important initiative including the work accomplished to date, discuss with the staff team how policies will be captured in the document, and provide comments and feedback to inform this process.

The open house will also include several breakout information stations where the public can engage with Port staff on specific topics and provide written questions or input on comment cards focused on the appropriate topic areas. The comments will be considered in the drafting of the Port Master Plan Update.

The Board of Port Commissioners held its first public workshop to discuss the draft Master Plan Update on March 9. The workshop focused on the organizational structure of the Port Master Plan, the proposed consolidated land and water use designations, and the proposed draft goals for the Land and Water Use Element.

The Port of San Diego’s Integrated Planning initiative began in 2013 and is often referred to as “the future of the Port.” The Port Master Plan Update will modernize the Port’s method for land and water planning and serve as a master blueprint for future development. It will create certainty for developers and other community members by codifying a vision for how future projects will fulfill public goals.

The current workplan anticipates finalizing the Draft Port Master Plan Update document and initiating the Environmental Impact Report process in mid-2017.
