New signing for WTC Rotterdam

Aug 16, 2016

ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - This week, the green tower of World Trade Center Rotterdam on the Beursplein will be fitted with the worldwide World Trade Center logo. Up to last year, an ‘Beurs-World Trade Center’ logo was in use. In keeping with the international WTC standard, from now on the international logo will be used. Over the last decade, the building was transformed from exchange buidling to a full service office environment with facilities such as a business center, conference center and shops. At the moment, the WTC is the home base of more than 200 businesses, from small to large. Bouwinvest’s Office Fund took ownership of the building in 2015 and outsourced the management of the property to DTZ Zadelhoff Property Management. Over the last few months, parts of the building have undergone a thorough upgrade. There are also plans in the making to further strengthen the links between the building and the city.

The city of Rotterdam was thinking about establishing a World Trade Center as early as 1968. At the time, this was a relatively new concept and it made the port city one of the ‘founding members’ of the World Trade Centers Association. Originally, the location in mind was the Leuvehaven but, after much debate and several city councils later, it was eventually decided to turn the Beursgebouw into a World Trade Center and add a new 93 meter high tower. The high-rise was built on top of the now listed historic building and was officially opened in 1987 by Her Royal Highness Queen Beatrix. At the time, the Beursgebouw was christened the Beurs-World Trade Center. At present, 322 WTCs are part of the World Trade Centers Association.
