HALIFAX, CANADA – WTC Halifax has received the prestigious Members' Choice Award out of 14 finalists at the 2015 International Association of Convention Centres Innovation Award, presented Tuesday, July 7, in Boston.
The remarkable achievement was based on the team's "Imagine Your Event Here" unique brand and marketing campaign that engaged global event planners and is helping shape their new Halifax Convention Centre, from the ground up.
The campaign featured interactive elements in the planning, design and actual experience of hosting an event in Halifax, with tactics that ranged from direct mail and guerilla marketing to weekly blog posts and digital elements.
WTC Halifax was one of only two Canadian finalists and competed against international facilities including Amsterdam RAI Convention Center, Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona, International Convention Centre Sydney, and the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
"There's nothing more gratifying than seeing our team recognized by global industry peers," said Scott Ferguson, president and CEO of WTC Halifax. "We have worked very hard to connect the new space with potential audiences, and to receive this award is a signal that we're moving in an exciting direction and making those meaningful connections through innovation and creativity."
Through bold, simple, fun brand and marketing tactics, the Halifax Convention Centre is building anticipation, excitement and confidence with event planners. Campaign efforts are helping to make Nova Scotia a top meeting destination, and business is already booked for when the facility opens in 2017.
The International Association of Convention Centres is the industry group for professional convention and exhibition centre managers worldwide. The innovation award reflects the association's mission of encouraging and recognizing excellence in convention centre management.
