Portugese Consul General wants to promote trade

A team from WTC Goa mainly Rupa Naik, Director (Projects), Manguirish P Raikar, Advisor, Neeta Kolhatkar, Jt. Director, Communications and Ambika Dhakhenkar, Asst Mgr, WTC Goa met with the Consul General of Portugal, HE Rui Carvalho Baceira. He shared his views on promoting trade and bilateral relations.

CG Baceira expressed keen desire to develop trade relationship with India through Goa being a gateway to India. Currently the export and trade between the two countries needs to be enhanced, currently, the exports from India are approximately 330.72 Euro millions while from Portugal nearly half of this.

Currently, there are only few products from Portugal in the Indian markets, which the Consul General wishes to bring products and companies from certain sectors like traditional Olive oil, canned tuna fish, cookies,shoes (better quality), cod fish, port wine, egging powder, clothes, wines, chandeliers, tiles, pharmaceutical products. Similarly Portugese CG also wants to explore the service industry and Information Technology via the e-government platforms.

Rupa Naik assured the Consulate to establish a connection between WTC Lisbon and WTC Goa. She mentioned now with a World Trade Centre in Goa actively starting its programmes, the companies and entrepreneurs from Portugal can approach WTC Goa to help connecting. She suggested that Portugal CG visit the ‘Upper Crust’ show which is held in WTC Mumbai wherein the Portugese companies can showcase their products like port wine and olive oil.

World trade day organized by WTC Goa will be celebrated in the beginning of 2016 with Portugal as the partner country.
