PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA - Thomas A. Leonard, Managing Partner with the Philadelphia law firm Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel, is at the center of activity organized to bring Pope Francis to Philadelphia. Tom has been associated with the WTCA for over twenty years, serving as a founding member of WTC Greater Philadelphia and recently expanding his role with the organization by representing WTC Chicago. Tom serves on the Board and is a principal investor.
The Greater Philadelphia region is consumed with excitement that it will be the focal point of Pope Francis’ first visit to the U.S. From September 25-27 he will participate in the eighth World Meeting of Families, including the Festival of Families on September 26, and a Papal Mass on September 27. Since its inception in 1994, the Meeting has sought to strengthen the sacred bonds of family across the globe. The theme for Philadelphia 2015 is “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive,” emphasizing the impact of the love and life of families in society. Officials say it will draw a million tourists to the city and generate over $400 million in economic impact.
In July 2015, Tom, along with dignitaries, security professionals and others involved in making this historic trip successful, travelled to Rome to meet with their Vatican emissaries. “I have been an active participant in helping to make Philadelphia the global city that it should be, especially given its role as the center of activity in the founding of the U.S. and the establishment of its enduring Constitution”, Tom remarked. “No single event, however, can make the kind of impact that a visit from the Holy Father represents. I do hope that the treasures of our city are seen by the world through the eyes of the international media.”
Tom is Chairman of Obermayer and its Litigation Department and a permanent member of the firm’s Management Committee. He currently serves as Chairman of the Delaware Valley Real Estate Investment Fund, Permalith Plastics, Crowley Chemical and Hahnemann Hospital. He serves on the Board of Directors for Independence Blue Cross; U.S. Facilities; WTCGP; and WTC Chicago. He is President of the Board of Advisors of Roman Catholic High School.
As a committed internationalist, Tom serves on the Board of Directors for The World Affairs Council and the Irish American Partnership. He has represented WTCGP and brings the same energy to making WTC Chicago a top-tier WTC.
