VIETNAM'S GDP GROWS BY 3.72% IN H1 OF 2023

According to the General Statistics Office (GSO), Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew approximately 3.72% in the first half of this year.

During the first six months of 2023, agriculture, forestry, and fishing accounted for 9.28% of the economy, while industry and construction accounted for 11.87% and the service sector accounted for 78.85%. The main contributors to the rapid expansion of the service sector are domestic consumption stimulation policies and tourism promotion activities

In terms of GDP usage during this time, final consumption increased by 2.68% compared to the same period last year; accumulated assets increased by 1.15%; and the goods and services trade balance declined by 10%.

Foreign trade was down 15.2% year-on-year to $316.65 billion in the first half of 2023, with exports falling by 12.1% and imports by 18.2%. There was a trade surplus of $12.25 billion.

General Director of the GSO, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong stated that despite global unpredictability, Vietnam’s socio-economic performance during the first half of the year was positive, with macroeconomic stability, key balances maintained, and inflation under control.
