Seminar on International Trade Facilitation

BHUBANESWAR, INDIA - WTC Bhubaneswar in association with the Export Import Bank of India organized a seminar on "International Trade Facilitation" at Bhubaneswar on 24th July 2015. Emphasising on the importance of exports to the Indian economy Shri. N. Shankar, Executive Director, EXIM Bank of India, in his key note address, outlined the role played by EXIM bank in promotion of exports and how it can be be achieved through various schemes of Government of India like the Make in India. Giving a background about the establishment of EXIM bank and its purpose he spoke about the importance played by product quality and time schedule for performing international business. Speaking about the latest trends of export and import of various products he highlighted the countries to which major exports are being made from India. He also highlighted the setting up of the SPVs for clusters for enhancing and promoting exports. 

Smt. Daya Chandradas, General Manager, EXIM Bank further presented both on financial and non-financial benefits being extended through various schemes of the Bank. She explained in detail on how an entrepreneur could take advantage of the available schemes of export to various countries through EXIM bank which would enable them reduce their export risk and also enable them to execute long term projects. She spoke about the MEIA scheme of the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India which is administered by ECGC. She highlighted that EXIM bank has through this scheme supported 400 projects of 30 billion in the last year. She also provided an overview of the bank and how the bank is encouraging MSMEs through cluster financing. 

Shri. Panchanan Dash, Secretary, Department of MSME, Government of Odisha while delivering the inaugural address at the occasion said that the State is taking efforts to push exports from Odisha to ensure the development of the economy of Odisha. He said that the state endeavours to double the current export figures. Referring to the Make in India campaign which aims to make India a manufacturing hub, he said that the Odisha also aims to be one of the high performing manufacturing hubs of the country by creating a business friendly environment. He highlighted the importance of the single window clearance mechanism which in the State is now being offered through the DICs as well as IPICOL fot manufacturing sector. Going forward such a single window mechanism would also be made available to the exporters of the State. He asserted that it is international trade and marketing which is going to help the industry in general and MSMEs in particular. According to the revised norms MSMEs will account for around 95% of the manufacturing sector of the State. He further lauded WTC Bhubaneswar for organizing such an important seminar bringing all the stake holders and such expert speakers on to a single platform for sensitizing the entrepreneurs of the state. He assured all assistance to the centre for their upcoming ventures in these lines. 

Shri. S.K. Mishra, IRS, Assistant Commissioner of Customs further elaborated on the role of customs in facilitation of international trade and explained how the customs may be viewed as a facilitator for international trade. Shri. N. Vaidyanathan, ITS, Assistant DGFT deliberated on the new foreign trade policy and elaborated on the various schemes that can be availed by the exporters. Shri.B.K. Das, Director, Directorate of Export Promotion Government of Odisha, explained the role played by the DEPM for promoting exports of the MSME sector. Shri. Anirudha Behera of IDBI Bank and Shri. Laxminarayan Sahu of Export Credit Guarantee Corporation also made deliberations on the roles played by their respective organization in export facilitation. 

Earlier, Mr.A.O.Kuruvila, Deputy Director, World Trade Centre in his welcome address, while sharing facts about the present export scenario of the country highlighted the importance of international trade facilitation. He asserted that World Trade Centre Bhubaneswar is committed to take up all initiatives in order to facilitate and promote exports from the State and assist the entrepreneurs to perform international trade. He also announced the upcoming EDP training program being organized by the Centre on 6th and 7th of August 2015.
The seminar was attended by over 100 delegates representing trade and industry.
