WTCSav Interns Excel

Aug 31, 2017

Nipuna Ambanpola is an Economic Research intern at World Trade Center Savannah (WTCSav). He is also a college student and Founder and Chairman of IVolunteer International, a national non-profit organization operating to elevate the quality of human life across the globe.

When asked, why he thought WTCSav was a great choice for an internship, Ambanpola responded, “I love market forecasts, looking at how policy and culture affect the economy and anything to do with research, so I thought this internship would fit perfectly to me and I was right!”

In addition to his active life with academics, being involved in campus activities and managing an international non-profit organization, Ambanpola has visited seven countries and says that meeting new people is one of his greatest passions. Most recently, he visited Thailand for the 8th University Scholars Leadership Symposium at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. Ambanpola is an advocate for volunteerism and was awarded the Barbara M. & Donald L. Thomas Peace Award in 2015. He was also a featured TEDx Savannah presenter in 2017 where he spoke about uniting the world through volunteerism.

“The World Trade Center Savannah internship has given me the opportunity to learn more about researching, evaluating economic impacts, reporting, interpreting data and current business practices. It has developed a deep passion for economic data analysis in me as I have been able to understand the important components of an economy, the importance of strategic investments, collaboration and partnerships. World Trade Center Savannah has contributed to my professional growth as I worked in a business environment upholding best business practices and a professional work environment,” Ambanpola says of his experience.

Originally from Sri Lanka, Ambanpola was awarded a scholarship through the Georgia Rotary Student Program to study in the United States. He is currently studying Economics with a minor in International Studies at Armstrong State University and is very active on campus through Rotaract, and the Student Government Association. Upon graduation, Ambanpola hopes to study in England and earn an MSc. in Defense, Development and Diplomacy from Durham University. He is planning to pursue a career in International Policy, Diplomacy and/or Conflict Prevention.
