WTCNO Presented with Gift from Pan AmCham

Apr 06, 2015

NEW ORLEANS, LA, USA â€“ The World Trade Center New Orleans was recently presented with a gift from the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Panama (Pan AmCham), following a business mission to the country in late 2014. The World Trade Center New Orleans, together with a delegation of business leaders from Louisiana, traveled to Panama to foster economic opportunity between the two regions. Part of the mission included a tour of the expansion construction taking place at the Panama Canal, as well as high-level meetings with port authorities and channel administrators. One particular focus of the mission was to continue ongoing discussions with Panama’s fastest growing air carrier, Copa Airlines, in efforts to secure a direct flight between New Orleans and Panama. On February 5, 2015, officials at the Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans announced that Copa Airlines would begin offering non-stop service to Panama beginning in June 2015.

The New Orleans region has been one of the largest U.S. markets without non-stop service to Latin America, with over 400 passengers daily traveling to the region. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) is the largest commercial airport within 300 miles and captures over 80% of Louisiana’s emplacements. “We thank the American Chamber of Commerce of Industry of Panama for this extraordinary gift,” said Dominik Knoll, Chief Executive Officer of the World Trade Center New Orleans. “The long-held commercial and cultural ties between our two regions remain stronger than ever, and we look forward to the future of building on that relationship even further.”
