WTC Utah Launches 25k Jobs Tour with Lt. Gov.

Aug 14, 2017

Utah is consistently recognized as one of the top economies in the nation, but not all of the state’s communities are full participants in this economic success. Counties located off the Wasatch Front are experiencing some challenges.

Governor Gary R. Herbert recognized the need to do something to help these communities. In his 2017 State of the State address, he challenged the private sector to create 25,000 jobs in the 25 counties off of the Wasatch Front over the next four years.

Lt. Governor Spencer J. Cox has partnered with World Trade Center Utah to launch the 25k Jobs Tour, which is the first step of the 25k Jobs Initiative. The tour takes 20 economic development partners to the 25 counties located off the Wasatch Front for a fast-paced summer road trip. The purpose is to connect rural Utah communities with resources to elevate their economies and create jobs.

While the ultimate goal is to create 25,000 jobs in four years, the initiative does more than that. Part of the goal is to help communities clear roadblocks that are impeding economic progress, whether that is infrastructure, transportation, seasonal employment, etc.

The launch tour brings key community resources and stakeholders, which are typically located in the heart of Salt Lake, and transplants them to a rural community for a half day event. These interactive community events include networking, food and activities for people of all ages.

World Trade Center Utah is partnering with the Lieutenant Governor’s Office on the 25k Jobs Launch Tour because of its extensive rural network and desire to help companies diversify and expand globally.
