WTC St. Louis Trade Mission to Europe May 9-16

Jun 26, 2015

ST. LOUIS, MO, USA - World Trade Center St. Louis together with Mayor Francis Slay, St. Louis County Council Chairman, Patrick Dolan and the St. Louis Regional Chamber recently led a trade mission to Dublin, Ireland. The genesis of the trip came about in response to an invitation from United States Ambassador to Ireland and St. Louis native, Kevin O’Malley.

Members of the delegation included BioSTL, Mallinckrodt, Mastercard, Monsanto, The Yield Lab, Webster University and Saint Louis University among other prominent St. Louis based organizations.

Ambassador O’Malley hosted a reception at his residence for the delegation, which was catered by St. Louis based Sugarfire BBQ while Anheuser-Busch supplied the beverages. In addition to the reception, delegates had a number of smaller meetings with St. Louis based companies with a longstanding presence in Ireland such as public relations firm FleishmanHillard and an innovation roundtable hosted by Mastercard.

After the trip to Dublin, a smaller contingent traveled to Merck headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Merck KGaA is in the process of acquiring St. Louis-based biochemical company Sigma Aldrich. Delegation members also visited the London offices of St. Louis law firm Bryan Cave.

This trip was not only an opportunity to grow local trade and investment but also a chance to strengthen St. Louis’ global image. Feedback from the mission has been extremely positive with much follow-up work already in progress.
