SAVANNAH, GA, U.S.A. – On March 19-20, World Trade Center Savannah (WTC Savannah) assisted their partner, Peeples Industries, Inc., in hosting a delegation from Uruguay. The group was comprised of senior leaders from the National Institute for Logistics, Logistics Chamber of Uruguay, Latin American Logistics Association, Ministry of Transport and Public Works, and the Uruguayan Port Authority.

The Uruguayan delegation had the opportunity to become familiar with the logistics industry in Savannah through various site visits. The delegation started by touring Georgia Ports Authority where they learned about the fourth largest and fastest growing port in the nation and the existing opportunities for trade with Uruguay. The group went on to tour the IKEA distribution center and learn about the Savannah center’s successful breakthroughs in logistics and operations innovation. The group then visited East Coast Terminal owned by Peeples Industries Inc., a company specializing in bulk marine terminal operations, to tour their multi-purpose terminal, which specializes in the handling of bulk, dry bulk and liquid materials. Following the familiarization tours of Savannah’s booming logistics industry, the delegation presented a WTC Savannah Global Education Program on “Trade with Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina.” The delegation shared with Savannah regional businesses the potential that Uruguay holds as a distribution hub for South America. The program included presentations by Alberto Diaz, President of the Uruguayan Port Authority, and Beatriz Tabacco, President of the National Institute for Logistics, Director of Planning and Logistics and Ministry of Transport and Public Works.
