WTC Rotterdam beating heart of Marathon Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - On 13 April 2014, the 34th edition of the ABN AMRO Marathon Rotterdam took place. As every year, the official start was given on the bustling Coolsingel near World Trade Center Rotterdam. WTC Rotterdam's Congress & Event Center is also the home of the Marathon. Prior to the Marathon, on 11 and 12 April 2014, the Marathon Sport Expo took place in the exhibition halls of WTC Rotterdam. The expo is organized in conjunction by WTC Rotterdam and Marathon Rotterdam. For runners, WTC Rotterdam is also the place to gather and collect their bib numbers.

Rotterdam Marathon
The Rotterdam Marathon is very popular among runners, the maximum subscriptions was reached several weeks prior to the event this year. Approximately 13,500 participants ran the marathon through the streets of Rotterdam. This included a new record, as many as 3,000 international runners from 74 different countries participated. The different runs together brought the number of participants at 34,000. Among them the Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge, sixth in the all-time world ranking, was starting. Also international top runners Bernard Koech, Albert Matebor, Birhanu Gebru and Bernard Kipyego participated. This years winner is Eliud Kipchoge (2.05.00).

Marathon Sport Expo
Two days prior to the Rotterdam Marathon, the annual Marathon Sport Expo was held in WTC Rotterdam. This exhibition represents the beating heart of the Marathon and offers everything in terms of running, gadgets and lifestyle for both the professional and the recreational runner. The wide variety of exhibitors and the many promotions and activities make the Marathon Sport Expo appealing to young and old. The event took the entire exhibition floor of 3,500 m2 of space.
