WTC opened a Garden in memory of WWII veterans

Oct 30, 2020

On October 15, the Moscow World Trade Center joined one of the key events of the Year of Remembrance and Glory, which is held throughout Russia - the International Action "Garden of Memory" dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory, opening a lilac "Garden of Memory of Veterans of the Great Patriotic War" in Krasnaya Presnya park.

The choice of lilac is not accidental; its lush bloom sends us to the day of the Great Victory. This symbol of rebirth and prosperity can be seen in almost all photos showing how the soldiers who defeated fascism and brought the long-awaited liberation of most of Europe meet. By planting our Garden, we want to perpetuate this memory, to pay tribute to the feat of our relatives who fought to give us peace today.

Initially, the Garden was to be laid in May on the eve of the great holiday, but due to known circumstances the event was postponed, and the invited guests, members of the WTC Veteran Organization, could not take part in the action. Nevertheless, it was decided not to deviate from the plan, and the WTC staff together with WTC management have planted lilac bushes, which will bloom magnificently next May, complementing the holiday atmosphere with its beauty and aroma.

WTC Moscow Deputy Director General for Finance and Commerce, Vadim Subbotin said: “Planting trees in memory of the veterans of the Great Patriotic War in the year of the 75th anniversary of Victory is very symbolic. This is our contribution, which will remain for many decades, will become a beautiful reminder to our children and grandchildren of a great event in our history, which must not be forgotten".
The "Garden of Memory of Veterans of the Great Patriotic War" and the "Lilac Alley of the WTC" planted a year earlier in the Krasnaya Presnya park became an excellent continuation of the garden and park zone connecting the park and the World Trade Center, a unique for the center of the capital, a corner of wildlife with carefully trimmed English lawn, a variety of types of garden trees and ornamental shrubs, as well as a huge variety of rare flowers that delight those who walk in the park from early spring to late autumn.
