WTC Mumbai Celebrates the Spirit Behind WTCA Day

World Trade Centre Mumbai celebrated the 17th World Trade Centers Association Day on June 12, 2018 to express solidarity and pursue the mission of peace and stability through trade.

Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Government of India in a video message remarked, “I complement World Trade Centers Association, New York and World Trade Centre (WTC) Mumbai for promoting trade, industry and exports.”

Gen. (Dr.) V. K. Singh (Retd.), Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India said, “On WTCA Day, we must take stock of terrorist attacks and take a pledge that such things do not happen to our nation, property and people.”

The Minister said, “India has tabled a draft comprehensive convention, on fighting terrorism at the UN. I hope all nations will support it and join the war against terrorism.”

The Minister emphasised on promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific zone as 90% of India’s trade passes through sea.

The Minister said, “If trade, commerce and economic integration have to survive, economic terrorism has to go.”

The Minister pointed out his Government’s initiative in launching International Solar Alliance at Paris, which will add 175 gigawatt of solar power capacity by 2022.

The Minister spoke of ‘Ayushman Bharat’, to be implemented shortly. The scheme will provide healthcare cover upto Rs 5 lakh to 50 crore individuals or 10 crore families.

Mr. Jayakumar Rawal, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Employment Guarantee Scheme, Government of Maharashtra, “Tourism is a soft diplomacy and Government of Maharashtra is promoting it through initiatives such as experimental tourism. The state has signed an MoU with Airbnb to promote tourism”.

Mr. Rawal further added, “Government of Maharashtra is holding discussions with Canada and USA to set up hubs for artificial intelligence.”

Mr. Kamal Morarka, Chairman, MVIRDC World Trade Centre Mumbai remarked, “Since the terrorist attacks on WTCA, NY, the world is shrinking, communication has reached unimaginable heights and extensive micromanagement has prevented similar incidents thereafter.”

Mr. Morarka further added, “World Trade Centers across the world promote goodwill through international trade.”

On this occasion, the Minister gave farewell felicitation to Dr. Norbert RĂ©vai-Bere, Dean, Consular Corps in Mumbai and Consul General of Hungary in Mumbai as his tenure in India comes to an end.
