Feb 20, 2015

LAS VEGAS, NV, USA - Las Vegas welcomed a record 41 million visitors last year and is already looking to boost that total to 45 million over the next few years. Beyond the obvious goal of attracting more visitors, a top priority for any tourist destination is providing a safe and secure environment.

Las Vegas will host the 22nd International Tourism Safety Conference at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is also the World Trade Center Las Vegas site, on April 26-29, 2015. A joint venture between the International Tourism Safety Association, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Las Vegas Security Chiefs Association, the conference is a gathering for safety and security officials in the travel and tourism industry focused on providing delegates with new information, trends, equipment, strategies and best practices in keeping visitors safe.

“The safety and security of visitors and residents is a top priority for any destination’s tourism industry, so it’s imperative to be aware of the current trends and information,” said Ray Suppe, President of International Tourism Safety Association and senior director of security for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “The International Tourism Safety Conference is designed to share practical advice, the latest strategies and new technology within the industry in order to help all destinations and attractions worldwide, and particularly here in Las Vegas, provide a safe and positive experience for visitors.”

The conference will feature presentations addressing issues such as the state of tourism security, global terrorism, human trafficking, workplace violence, pandemic health issues, nightclub security, community policing and more. A Tourism Oriented Policing and Protective Services (TOPPS) certification course will also be offered.

For destinations relying on tourism for the health of their economy, safety and security is essential in providing visitors with a great experience. The International Tourism Safety Conference provides professionals with the information and training they need to ensure they continue to provide a safe destination for travel.
