WTC Jaipur hosts "Opportunities in Solar Energy"

Oct 06, 2018

Jaipur | Rajasthan WTC Jaipur in association with MSME Development Institute, Jaipur, Employers Association of Rajasthan, Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd. and EAPRO Global Ltd. organized a session on global opportunities in solar energy sector, contemporary challenges and effective solutions to ensure adoption of green technology by maximum households and corporates and save on rising energy costs.

Mr. Jagdeep Chauhan, Managing Director, EAPRO Global Limited, Chief Guest to the session , said “unlike most systems that are under GST (Good and Service Tax) of 12% to 28% tax bracket, the solar rooftop generating systems are under 5% tax brackets. In addition, duty on imported solar cells, which is used in almost all the solar panels manufactured in India is 0%.”

Speaking on the competitive advantage Mr. Chauhan said “India attains 6th position in the world in terms of installed capacity for solar Power. Growth in 2017 has given a clear indication that renewable energy will account for more than 30% of total global energy generation of the world by 2022. Policy support too had given a favorable environment for green energy growth. Solar parks in India have recorded 100% year-on-year growth by generating excess of 8 billion kWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2018. Indian solar capacity also increased in Q1 2018. Many large scale solar parks have commissioned in 2018, thus adding to capacity.”

Earlier, Mr. M.K.Saraswat, Director, MSME Development Institute, Jaipur observed that “the losses in transmission & distribution of electricity are still huge. Today more than 15% of electricity generated is lost in transmission and distribution whereas solar energy could be produced right on your own roof and can be consumed within your premises, thereby limiting your transmission losses to minimum.”

Mr. Navneet Agarwal, Assistant Director, WTC Jaipur shared that commitment on adoption of solar energy by World Trade Centre Mumbai is exemplary and formidable to challenge. He explained “World Trade Centre Mumbai is the first commercial organization in South Mumbai to install rooftop grid-connected solar photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 250 KWp in September 2016. This plant helps us reduce carbon footprint by around 172 tonne per annum. The plant uses 808 waree make solar modules and nine SMA Germany made invertors.”

Mr. Pradeep Ojha, Joint Director, MSME, proposed vote of thanks.
