WTC Goa Interacts with officials of Banking Sector

WTC Goa, was invited to make a presentation to a distinguished gathering of officials of leading Public and Private sector banks operating out of South Goa during their District Consultative Committee (DCC)/ District Level Review Committee(DLRC) which was held on 14th December 2018 at Margao, Goa.

Mr. Agnelo Fernandes, Additional Collector, South Goa Chaired the meeting while officials of Reserve Bank of India, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, State Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Dena Bank, Central Bank of India, Corporation Bank, ICICI Bank along with officials of more than Fifty other Public and Private Sector banks actively participated in all the deliberations of the meeting.

Mr. Cyril Desouza, Assistant Director Trade Promotion, World Trade Centre (WTC), Goa made a lucid presentation on vital parameters, like the concept of the world Trade Centre, the facilities it offers and the activities of World Trade Centres Association (WTCA), New York, in offering a strong international network of WTCs across the globe that strive to promote Global Trade.

Mr. Desouza, presented to the delegates the role of WTC Goa in hand holding new exporters in obtaining Import Export Code (IEC), the Export Counseling it offers and the backward and forward linkages it promotes between producers, exporters, importers and final consumers to grow and expand exports from Goa.

Further reflecting on the exports from Goa, Mr. Desouza, highlighted the sectors that Goa currently has a strong presence in. He also explained the role of WTC Goa in interacting with the Directorate of Industry Trade and Commerce of the Government of Goa as well as the interactive meetings arranged with the members of the Trade and Business to identify exports bottle necks as well as the Center's role in offering tangible solutions to increase exports from Goa.

He further appraised the delegates present of the suggestions that WTC Goa put forth in the run up of formulation of an exclusive Export policy for Goa that the Government of Goa along with the Central Government will be publishing shortly. Mr. Desouza also highlighted that a new Inland Container Depot (ICD) has started at Balli in South Goa and the advantages that would be available to the exporters of Goa through its establishment. He also informed that along with other trade Bodies in Goa, WTC Goa has also requested Hon'ble Chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) New Delhi, to kindly consider to start Export - Import (EXIM) services from Goa as soon as possible as this would greatly benefit the exporters of Goa who currently primarily rely on the city of Mumbai for this facility.

Mr. Desouza also invited all the delegates to kindly consider to join WTC Goa at the next edition of the Global Economic Summit (GES) to be held at WTC Mumbai from 06th to 08th March 2018 and interact with delegates from more than twenty five different Countries who are expected to participate at GES 2019.

In conclusion, Mr. Desouza said that the banking sector, needs a lot of promotion especially in the state of Goa and in this regard he proposed that all likeminded banks come together on one platform and organize an Exhibition and Conference to highlight the various activities of each bank and also deliberate on the new and emerging technologies in this sector. He opined, that this would give the banks an opportunity to share with their customers their new initiatives and also in turn, at the same time, get valuable feedback from their customers that would lead to a win - win situation for the banks and their valued customers, through the offering of custom made solutions to the end customers banking requirements. He offered them all support and cooperation from WTC Goa in successfully organizing the suggested Exhibition and Conference.
