World Trade Day Pune Celebrations at Pune

PUNE, INDIA - World Trade Day (WTD) 2017 was organised across 6 cities in Maharashtra under the aegis of World Trade Centre Mumbai in May 2017 with a clear focus on Enhancing Export Competitiveness of Maharashtra to Grow International Trade. It was part of WTD Maharashtra series across 6 cities - Mumbai, Nashik, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad,etc.
World Trade Center Pune hosted the World Trade Day Pune on 24th May 2017 alongwith WTC Mumbai, Pune Customs House Agents’ Association and associate partner SIDBI.
Mr. Santosh K. Vatsa, Joint Commissioner of Customs, Pune was the distinguished Guest of Honour at the World Trade Day celebrations.
A distinguished panel on ‘Regional Trading Blocs and the Emerging Trading System’ was organized on the occasion, moderated by Dr. Ram Upendra Das, Head & Professor, Centre for Regional Trade, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi. He set the tone of the session by unravelling the features and dimensions of trading blocs.
Dr. (Ms.) Saon Ray, Senior Fellow, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), New Delhi felt that Global Value Chain (GVCs) integration is becoming a great driver for international trade considering RTAs / FTAs. Dr. Sukalpa Chakrabarti, Deputy Director and Associate Professor, Symbiosis School of International Studies, Pune emphasised that to make the most out of the international trade regime MSMEs must adopt global quality standards.
The panel discussion ‘Ease of Doing Business: Clear-in Pune’ comprised experts and industry veterans, who shared their insights and experiences. The moderator of the session was Mr. Rajdeepak Bhargava, Founder President - Pune Customs House Agents’ Association (PCHAA). Mr. Santosh Vatsa spoke on the panel with other stalwarts - Mr. Vinod Sharma, President of PCHAA, Mr. Harish Radhakrishnan, General Manger, Serum Institute of India. Mr. Niranjan Joshi, Assistant General Manager - Container Movement (Bombay) Pvt. Ltd. - (Shipping Corporation of India).
Pune Customs gave a glimpse of its initiatives in improving Ease of Doing Business and benefits of hinterland clearance at Pune. Government Policy and implementation aspects were emphasised by Mr. Vatsa at the discussion.

Mr. A. O Kuruvila of World Trade Centre Mumbai gave opening remarks on the World Trade Day celebration concept and this years’ theme and celebration plans across 6 cities. Mr. Nikhil Oswal of World Trade Center Pune proposed a vote of thanks. World Trade Center Pune events and services are helping the global trade grow rapidly in Pune.
