TURKISH BUSINESS DELEGATION CALLS ON WTC ACCRA

Aug 26, 2016

ACCRA, GHANA - Mr Dursun Topcu, Vice President of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, has praised Ghana for its stable democracy and peaceful business environment. He made this comment when he led a business delegation to pay a courtesy call and officially invite management and staff of World Centre Accra to the 1st Product Fair, which was held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra from August 24 - 27th 2016.

The Vice President also indicated that Turkey has a lot of interest in other areas of the Ghanaian economy including construction, and Ghanaian businesses benefit equally from the bilateral trade as Turkey also import from Ghana.

In welcoming the delegation, Togbe Afede XIV, the Board Chairman of World Trade Centre Accra thanked the delegation for the visit. He expressed his appreciation to the Turkish government for the interest in Africa and expressed the hope that the growth and prospects of trade between the two countries will exceed the projected USD 1 billion by the end of 2020.

He commented that although a lot of resources abound in Africa, the continent contributed very little in terms of GDP to the global economy. He was however positive that the story is changing and that Africa is gradually positioning itself as a major player in global trade and Ghana, with its long history of stability and peace is a gateway to Africa.

‘With the recent addition of the TEN oilfield which is estimated to produce up to 80,000 barrels of oil per day to the existing ones, Ghana is gradually becoming a leader in oil production in Africa and the hope is that the country will become a net exporter soon’ he added. According to Togbe Afede XIV, World Trade Centre Accra will play a key role in moving Africa forward by reviving dormant WTC’s and also creating new WTC’s around the continent.

Togbe Afede XIV thanked the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce for their support during WTC Accra’s recent trade mission to Turkey. He invited the group to work with WTC Accra to organize an exhibition in the plush WTC Accra’s Convention Centre next year not only for the Ghanaian business community but with a sub-regional focus. He recounted the areas of co-operation between WTC Accra and other Turkish companies in the areas of pre-fabricated structures and textiles, and tasked the group to work hard to include investments in health, education, transportation aside Turkish products.

The meeting ended with exchange of gifts between the two institutions.
