TRIBUTES

Tribute by Carlos Ronderos, WTCA Latin America Regional Development Manager

I met Nelson in 1996, when I visited Montevideo looking for partners to develop a World Trade Center in the city. In our morning meeting, I expressed the importance of having the support of the government, and by late afternoon he had organized a very productive meeting with President LaCalle, who did not hesitate in giving all necesary support to this initiative. This anecdote shows the respect Uruguayans had for Nelson, and how his initiatives were taken seriously at all levels. With the same dilligence and with similar recognition by the local business community, he was able to make the WTC Montevideo the center for discussions on international trade and business. In his commitment to the Association, his contribution went well beyond his trade center, and becoming not only an outstanding regional coordinator for the Latin America region, but also an active member and chairman of its working committees.

His association with Estudio Lecuader resulted in the development of the magnificent WTC towers with state of the art construction, technology, and meeting facilities, among other features - an example for all WTCs in the world. The last designation given by the government was free trade zone status, thus helping businesses located at the WTC Montevideo facilitate their day-to-day international operations.
