San Diego Chosen one of five Top Cruise Destinations in US and Canada for Second Year in a Row

PRESS RELEASE: August 8, 2017.

For the second year in a row, Cruise Critic, the world’s leading cruise reviews site and online cruise community has named the Port of San Diego one of the top five cruise destinations in the United States and Canada.

The 2017 top five destinations in the United States and Canada for Cruise Critic reviewers are:

1. Quebec City, Canada
2. San Francisco, California
3. Bar Harbor, Maine
4. San Diego, California
5. Key West, Florida

The recognition is part of Cruise Critic’s second annual Cruiser’s Choice Awards, a program naming the world’s top cruise destinations based entirely on consumer ratings submitted with reviews on CruiseCritic.com. All rankings are based on member review ratings for cruises taken in the last year.

Reviewers on the Cruise Critic website made it clear that cruise itineraries are very important to them and that they were more likely to take a cruise to a destination that provided multiple options for things to do.

The Port of San Diego’s two cruise ship terminals, B Street Pier and Broadway Pier, are located on the downtown street grid, offering a seamless transition from the cruise ship to the city. San Diego’s Embarcadero is home to unique museums, epicurean delights, and panoramic views of the city skyline and San Diego Bay. Additionally, thriving neighborhoods such as Little Italy and the Ballpark District offer additional international flavors and entertainment within minutes of the cruise terminals.

“We are honored to be voted one of the top five cruise destinations by Cruise Critic’s online community for the second year in a row,” said Robert “Dukie” Valderrama, Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners. “In recent years we have installed $31 million in improvements to the North Embarcadero, providing our cruise passengers with a beautiful welcome to the Port of San Diego. That, along with all the wonderful attractions San Diego offers, will help attract new cruise business to our port.”

The Port of San Diego’s cruise season kicks off on September 15, 2017. Currently there are 83 cruise calls scheduled.

The Port’s homeported cruise lines, which are cruises that either begin or end in San Diego are Disney Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Celebrity Cruises.

The Port’s 2017-2018 cruise ship schedule is available online at portofsandiego.org/recreation.
