Record Turnout Expected for New Year Market Fair

Feb 17, 2015

TAIPEI, TAIWAN - The festive Taiwan New Year Market Fair, organized by World Trade Center Taipei, was held in Exhibition Hall 1 of the World Trade Center Taipei in Taipei from February 4th to 8th. With the participation of more than ten countries and over 500 exhibitors using 1200 booths, the fair featured an international flair and showcased a diverse range of high-quality products.

Chairman of WTC Taipei, Francis Liang, said, “In 2014, WTC Taipei hosted the first Taiwan New Year Market Fair, attracting 380,000 attendees and generating enormous sales amounting to USD 10 million. This year the scale of the fair has doubled.” This year’s Taiwan New Year Market Fair specially invited the Goddess Mazu of Dajia Jenn Lann Temple, and all believers were welcome to participate and express their faith. According to Liang, the event was an innovative approach by WTC Taipei to stimulate the sales and usage of the exhibition hall during the low season. The event successfully attracted visitors to the venue, and wonderfully combined Chinese New Year shopping and culture. The event allowed shoppers to pray for a smooth "Year of the Goat" while purchasing Chinese New Year merchandise.

WTC Taipei used the Taiwan New Year Market Fair as a platform to advocate food safety and worked with the government to promote the quality of Taiwan’s food. The fair also introduced Halal certification, a high international Islamic food standard, to strengthen public confidence in food certification labels and to strengthen the name of Taiwan as a large-scale food provider. WTC Taipei also provided a number of free booths to charity groups and work centers to participate in the festivities. WTC Taipei hopes that the public would follow this example and also show compassion and love toward those who are underprivileged so that everyone can enjoy a peaceful and prosperous new year.
