Our Contribution to Montevideo’s Modernization

MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY - As a result of the joint effort made by World Trade Center Montevideo, WTC Montevideo Free Zone, Montevideo Shopping and other private companies, the city has a new avenue: Dr. Luis E. Bonavita, a key roadwork in the most developed urban area in recent years.

The opening ceremony of Bonavita Avenue was held on June 27th at World Trade Center Montevideo’s Tower 4, and it was attended by the members of the complex’s Board of Directors, numerous businessmen, the press and Ing. Daniel Martinez, Mayor of Montevideo.

The avenue goes through World Trade Center Montevideo, behind Montevideo Shopping and along WTC 4, Hilton Garden Inn and WTC Montevideo Free Zone.

With a private investment of more than USD 3, 5 million, “it is an example of a public-private effort to build a better city. Going along the new Bonavita Ave., witnessing its breadth and the environment that surrounds it is like having a view of Montevideo in the future”, said Cr. Carlos Lecueder, Chairman of World Trade Center Montevideo.

This work stems from the impact of various construction works done by Montevideo Shopping, World Trade Center Montevideo and WTC Montevideo Free Zone and of other real estate developments to be built in the area. The Municipality of Montevideo authorized the building permits of all the projects provided that Bonavita St. was widened. Bonavita Avenue was built with the purpose of alleviating the impact of urban growth in the area and providing safe and easy traffic flow.

The widening of this street and other improvements guarantee fast-flowing traffic in the area. The work was executed and entirely financed by the private developers which constructed the buildings situated on Bonavita Ave.

Thus, Montevideo Shopping for its Hilton Garden Inn, WTC Montevideo Free Zone for its free trade zone tower, World Trade Center Montevideo for its towers 3 and 4 along with Cepheus S.A. and Savinel S.A, which will conduct other construction works in the area, formed a consortium and carried out the widening of the avenue.

The extension consisted in paving the whole 370-meter track and building two nine- meter-wide roadways and a five-meter-wide landscape median between Veintiséis de Marzo and Cr. Luis E. Lecueder as well as two seven-meter-wide roadways and a 1, 20-meter-wide landscape median between Cr. Luis E. Lecueder and Pablo Galarza streets.

During the opening ceremony, Cr. Carlos Lecueder highlighted the importance of this roadwork, which will improve traffic flow in the area. What is more, as the main artery of World Trade Center Montevideo Complex and Montevideo Shopping, “it will provide the proper framework and treatment for today’s most important business and commercial area in the country.”
