Meet the Market event in WTC Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - The 2nd edition of Lloyd´s Benelux Meet the Market event, held in WTC Congress & Event Center in Rotterdam, was a great success. With 20 boxes the Coverholders where well represented. In addition 25 underwriting pods were manned by some 35 underwriters from various classes of business on underwriting floors in the centre of the Meet the Market.

Until ten years ago the Dutch Insurance Exchange always took place in WTC Rotterdam, the former exchange building of Rotterdam. Based on the success of the 1st Meet the Market in 2012, Lloyd’s took the initiative to bring back a rebuild of the insurance exchange for one day on the 17th of March.

The Insurance Exchange was a meeting place where providers (insurers) and buyers (policyholders, represented by insurance agents) could meet to discuss insurance policies, which were usually subscripted. The traditional meeting places in Rotterdam and Amsterdam ceased to exist in 2004.

At the Lloyd’s Meet the Market day in excess of 650 people visited the floor which was opened by Benno Reischel, Head of Europe. The British ambassador, Sir Geoffrey Adams, spoke to the audience about the strong relationships between Rotterdam and UK.

The feedback from delegates was very positive, with many highlighting the importance of the event for doing business.
