LVCC Seeks GBAC STARâ„¢ Accreditation

May 25, 2020

Las Vegas continues to prove itself as a leader in safety and sanitation practices as the country prepares for the return of travel. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) are proud to be among the first organizations to pursue GBAC STARâ„¢ facility accreditation.

By earning GBAC STARâ„¢ accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, the LVCC is working to instill additional confidence in our customers, staff and key stakeholders. It is paramount to the LVCVA to demonstrate that our facility has the proper cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention systems in place.

GBAC STARâ„¢ is a performance-based accreditation program that helps facilities demonstrate that they have the work practices, procedures and protocols to prepare, respond, and recover from outbreaks and pandemics. The program helps to establish and maintain a cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention program to control and/or minimize risk associated with infectious agents such as SARS-CoV-2 (responsible for COVID-19 disease) for employees, customers, clients, visitors, the community, and the environment

GBAC STAR™ is an annual accreditation designed for any size facility, including convention centers, stadiums and arenas, hotels and more. There are 20 program elements that will each have specific performance and guidance criteria provided. To achieve GBAC STAR™ accreditation, facilities must demonstrate compliance with the program’s 20 elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures.

The GBAC STAR Accreditation Council determines the status of all GBAC STAR facilities. The LVCC has started the process and looks forward to updating stakeholders when the accreditation has been achieved.
