Las Vegas Expanding Global Reach

Dec 22, 2014

LAS VEGAS, NV, USA - Just about everyone knows Las Vegas is a great travel destination, but did you know that it’s also a place for international trade and commerce? As the No. 1 trade show destination in the U.S. for a record 20 years, Las Vegas hosts more of the largest trade shows than any other destination. These various shows touch just about every sector of industry including electronics, automotive, construction, technology, retail, and real estate just to name a few. The collection provides international companies a unique opportunity to get their products beyond their borders.

Cheryl Smith, medical and wellness tourism manager for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), recently attended the Discover Global Markets Business Forum sponsored by U.S. Commercial Services in Minneapolis, MN. The forum brings U.S. trade officials, private sector experts and seasoned exporters from around the world together to learn about foreign markets and discuss opportunities. Smith met with representatives from nine countries including, Turkey, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, China, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil, who for the most part, were surprised she wasn’t promoting tourism. Instead, she presented them with information about Las Vegas-based trade shows and explained the various opportunities that surround them.

These introductions are the first step in developing a relationship that may translate into an increase in international delegates participating in and attending Las Vegas-based trade shows, a goal for the LVCVA and its clients.

This forum was a prime example of how the LVCVA and the WTC Las Vegas are working together to develop new international channels that elevate awareness that Las Vegas is not only a serious place to conduct business, but also an international platform for import and export opportunities.
